What do you notice?

  • A low hum from the ventilation unit.
  • The humming gets worse at a higher ventilation setting.

  • The motor still runs but sounds heavier than usual.

Possible causes

  • Worn bearings.
  • Imbalance of fan or motor.
  • Contamination of fan impeller or motor.
  • Resonance of the ventilation unit or ductwork.

What can you check yourself?

Check if the humming comes from the motor itself or is amplified by the casing or ducts. Also, notice if the sound changes when you choose a different ventilation setting. Always de-energize the ventilation unit before opening it.
