R-Vent ventilation unit hums
Is your R-Vent ventilation unit or motor humming? A humming noise is often caused by worn bearings, a heavy-running motor, dirt, or resonance of the ventilation unit or ductwork.

What do you notice?
- A low hum from the ventilation unit.
- The humming gets worse at a higher ventilation setting.
- Vibrations through walls, ceilings, or ventilation ducts.
- The motor still runs but sounds heavier than normal.
Possible causes
- Worn bearings.
- Imbalance of fan or motor.
- Contamination of fan impeller or motor.
- Resonance of the ventilation unit or ductwork.
What can you check yourself?
Check if the humming comes from the motor itself or if it is amplified by the housing or ventilation ducts. Also, pay attention if the sound changes when you choose a different ventilation setting. Always disconnect power to the ventilation unit before opening it.
