Brink HRV unit humming

A humming Brink HRV unit can be caused by a heavy-running ventilation motor, worn bearings, imbalance, or resonance transmitted through the casing and ventilation ducts.

Start troubleshooting

What do you notice?

  • A constant low hum.
  • The sound increases at higher airflow settings.
  • Vibrations are transmitted to the wall or ducts.
  • The fan sounds heavier than before.

Possible causes

  • Worn motor bearings.
  • Imbalance or fouling.
  • Loose mounting or resonance.
  • A fan that runs heavily.

Is the sound coming from the motor?

Listen if the humming comes from one specific fan or is mainly audible through the casing and ducts. Open the unit only when it is completely de-energized.

Send a recording of the sound

With a video, a photo of the nameplate, and the exact Brink model, we can more accurately assess what might be going on.

Report a malfunction

Overhaul or replace motor?

If bearings or mechanical motor parts are the cause, overhaul can be a solution. In case of electronic motor damage, replacement may be necessary.
