Fläkt malfunction
Fläkt ventilation unit making noise
Is your Fläkt ventilation unit or HRU (Heat Recovery Unit) making more noise than usual? A humming, grinding, rattling or squealing sound often indicates wear and tear of the motor, worn bearings, or contamination of the fan.
- Humming or grinding sound
- Vibrations or resonance
- Motor overhaul often possible
What do you notice?
- The ventilation unit makes more noise than before.
- A humming, grinding, rattling or squealing sound.
- The sound increases at a higher ventilation setting.
- Vibrations via wall, ceiling or ventilation ducts.
Possible causes
- Worn bearings or rotating parts.
- Contamination of fan or motor.
- Imbalance of the fan wheel.
- Wear of motor or mounting rubbers.
When is overhaul possible?
If the noise is caused by wear to the motor or bearings, overhaul is often an excellent solution. This usually means the complete ventilation unit or HRU does not need to be replaced.
